
A wide variety of publications are available through the Lifestyle Medicine Initiative. In addition to the world’s only peer reviewed journal of Lifestyle Medicine (the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, Sage Publications) a wide variety of materials are available for every level of educational background. Included in this portion of the Lifestyle Medicine Initiative are multiple trade books for the lay public in such topics as walking, heart disease, fitness for people over the age of 40, as well as academic textbooks in Lifestyle Medicine, Lifestyle Nutrition and Lifestyle Obesity Management. In addition, through its relationship with Rippe Lifestyle Institute, Lifestyle Medicine Initiative has access to state of the art research and publications on an ongoing basis. The Rippe Lifestyle Institute research team has published over 300 academic abstracts and papers in the area of Lifestyle Medicine. During an average year, RLI researchers publish between 15-25 new papers and/or abstracts presented at national medical and scientific meetings related to lifestyle medicine and health.

American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine
In January 2007, Sage Publications launched the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. This bi-monthly publication goes to 20,000 health care providers. Dr. Rippe serves as the Editor in Chief of AJLM. More information on AJLM may be found at http://ajl.sagepub.com
In 1999 Dr.Rippe's landmark medical textbook, Lifestyle Medicine, was published. This is the first textbook ever to bring into one volume background information for physicians on physical activity, proper nutrition, weight management and other lifestyle decisions and practices as they relate to the practice of medicine. This is a 1,500 page academic textbook with 150 contributors. Dr. Rippe is the senior editor of this textboook.
Lifestyle Nutrition, published in 1999 and coauthored by Dr. Rippe and Johanna T. Dwyer, D.Sc., is intended for physicians and nutritionists. This book contains eight contributions discussing essential dietary requirements and providing advice for managing patients' health and disease through diet. Material in this book was originally published as a section of Dr. Rippe's larger textbook, Lifestyle Medicine.
Lifestyle Obesity Management, published in 2003 and coauthored by Dr. Rippe and John P. Foreyt, PhD, is intended for physicians and other health care professionals working in the field of weight loss and obesity management. This book contains ten contributions discussing the value of using a multi disciplinary approach in the management of obesity including dietary, exercise and behavioral strategies. Material also includes discussion of the latest research in drug treatment and surgery as well as childhood
obesity.
Fit Over Forty was published in 1996. It contains the results of the landmark study conducted at Rippe Lifestyle Institute that established the first-ever-comprehensive fitness standards for individuals between the ages of 40 and 79. Forwards to Fit Over Forty were written by baseball legend Nolan Ryan and skating legend Peggy Fleming.

Published in 2000, this book was co-authored by Dr. James Rippe, Amy Myrdal, MS, RD, Angela Kirkpatrick, RD, and Mary Abbott Waite, PhD.
The second publication in the For Dummies series on heart disease by Dr. Rippe. Written for the layman, this plain English guide is directed at patients, families and anyone wishing to make healthy lifestyle decisions in the prevention and management of heart disease.
The Joint Health Prescription, 8 weeks to Stronger, Healthier, Younger Joints, published in 2001, contains the results of the breakthrough study conducted at Rippe Lifestyle Institute that showed marked improvement in joint health through the use of a gelatin-based supplement. It provides a comprehensive joint health program combining the benefits of this supplement with a program of walking, stretching, and strengthening exercises.
Dr. Rippe’s trade book, High Performance Health, was published in June 2007 and was the lead book on Thomas Nelson’s Spring/Summer list for 2007.
